Campus AED program
CU EMS partners with the Division of Public Safety to inspect and maintain AEDs across CU Boulder. If your department has an AED, we can help ensure it's always ready.

Why it matters
AED batteries and electrode pads expire. Devices can be damaged, moved, or become inaccessible. When someone goes into cardiac arrest, there's no time to discover that the nearest AED won't turn on.
Colorado requires that AEDs be maintained according to manufacturer guidelines. CU EMS provides free inspections to departments across campus—checking expiration dates, device condition, and accessibility so you don't have to.
The process
We verify the battery has charge and record expiration dates
Adult and pediatric pads checked for expiration and sealed packaging
Is the AED visible, unobstructed, and easy to grab quickly?
Cabinet condition, signage, and that the unit powers on correctly
We photograph each AED for records and to help responders locate it
You'll be notified before anything expires so replacements can be ordered
